Devlog #7 - Containers
Devlog Update - Enhanced Item Management, Stack Splitting, and Container Functionality
We are thrilled to share the latest updates that bring significant improvements to the item management and interaction systems in our game. These updates are designed to provide players with a more immersive and enjoyable gameplay experience. Let's dive into the details:
Stack Splitting:
We have introduced a highly important feature: stack splitting.
Players now have the ability to place items on slots containing the same item and the items will split between making that slot completely full and any excess will be placed on a separate slot in their inventory. For example, dropping a stack of two bread items onto a single bread item slot will result in a stack of three, while dropping two bread items onto two separate bread item slots will create a stack of three in one slot and leave one bread item in the next slot.
Container Functionality:
To further expand players' storage options and increase strategic decision-making, we have implemented container functionality. Containers now offer the following key features:
- Separate Inventory Space: Containers now come equipped with their own inventory space, separate from the player's inventory. This allows players to store additional items and effectively manage their resources.
- Seamless Drag and Drop: Interacting with containers has been made intuitive and convenient. Players can effortlessly drag items between their inventory and the container's inventory, facilitating easy transfer and organization of items. This functionality enables players to make informed decisions about which items to store or retrieve from containers.
- Distinct Visual Feedback: To provide clear differentiation between the player's inventory and the container's inventory, we have implemented a visually distinct container inventory interface. This visual feedback ensures players can easily identify and navigate between different inventories, enhancing overall usability.
Our commitment to continuous improvement means that we are dedicated to refining the mechanics and features of our game. The updates mentioned above represent significant steps towards enhancing the gameplay experience and providing players with greater control over their items and storage options.
Bug Fixes:
We have diligently addressed some important bugs to ensure a smoother gameplay experience. The following bug fixes have been implemented:
- Action Menu - Drop: The action menu's "Drop 1" option now correctly drops only a single item from the stack. Additionally, the "Drop All" option now drops the full stack of items as intended.
- Action Menu - Use: The "Use" button in the action menu has been refined to ensure it is only usable by items that have a use feature. When consuming an item with a use feature, such as food, the action triggers the consumption effect and prints the string "Fed player" to provide feedback. Items without a use feature will not trigger any action upon using the button.
As we move forward, we will continue to work on additional bug fixes, new features, and further enhancements to ensure a polished and engaging game. We greatly appreciate your ongoing support and valuable feedback as we progress through the exciting journey of game development. Stay tuned for future devlog updates, as there is much more to come!
